Schoooool's Out for the SUMMER!!

WAHOO!!!! Guess what happened yesterday?! (Slash last week...but we all know how good I am at posting the day I actually start writing!) I took my last final as a JUNIOR in college! When did I even get to be that old? I don't know either. So weird. But I love it at the same time. This last semester there were some days when I did not think I was going to make it. When I had so many things on my to do list that even if I only spent 30 minutes on each one, and did not sleep, I still would not have enough time for all of them. And believe me NONE of them only took thirty minutes! But I did it. I feel so successful based off this last semester and even better yet, this semester is going to be my highest GPA of my college career! So many great things occurring. I am happier than ever that my Arts semester is over. It pushed me a whole lot more than I was used to, which is interesting considering how hard adjusting to college was for me. But I have learned SO much and am grateful for my Father in Heaven for the numerous amount and never ceasing help he provided me with all semester, and all the time really. How blessed am I?! :)

Anyway, now on for the exciting part of my post... My summer plans and thing to look forward to!

1. Pretty sure you all know this one: AFRICA!!

with these, beautiful people!
and I could not be more excited. My visa, passport, vaccination card, and everything else to actually get into the country is here and I just got my really hot shoes yesterday that will keep me cool and comfortable during my stay. Am I REALLY going to Africa?! One of my biggest life goals is one week away from being accomplished. :) Amazing.

2. SPORTS CAMPS! Yes, I know what you all are thinking, "three years Kendra, really?!" What can I say? It is the best summer job ever!!! Playing, 7 Peaks-ing, eating, hanging out, dancing... It just does not get better than that!

3. A little bit of this:

4. In other exciting news we have out Pratt and Haynie reunion this summer and I am sooo stoked about that! 6 days of Pratt's and Haynie's split between Heber and Brian Head. We always have the best times seeing as how my family is pretty much the greatest! Why am I so blessed?! ;)

5. Just a little Tim and Lady A never hurt anybody! So we decided we would try them on for size come July 30th! Everyone is invited..I know you want to be there!

6. Of course, there will always be those spur of the moment trips, to places like Disneyland for redeem our Give-a-Day, Get-a-Day vouchers, maybe a little New Jersey to visit my dear sister and not to mention come the third week of August.... ROCKY POINT, MEXICO!!!

We came here for our Senior trip in 2007..not to mention the fact that my family and I have gone every year since I was about 12ish. It is heavenly. We decided since we are about to start our SENIOR year of COLLEGE it was fitting to go back right? And I need a tan to get me through these ridiculously long winters!

Here's to a summer of fun! I love it so much and can hardly wait!

lds.org... Definitely in tune today.

Remember how I get those Young Single Adult Gems from lds.org? Well they are definitely in tune with the spirit today. Here is what I received in my inbox just minutes ago:

We Need the Holy Ghost

“We need the Holy Ghost as our constant companion to help us make better choices in the decisions that confront us daily.”

How did they even know it was the first day of finals!? lds.org BYU students are thanking you for this inspirational message!
They sure know what is up today! :) Thanks Elder Hales!

A little bit like the Celestial Kingdom...pretty sure.

Just imagine.... walking into a cultural hall to the sound of 4 out of the 6 of those beautiful brethren singing amazing arrangements of church hymns and primary songs. (The Moleni family has 11 children in it, 6 boys and 4 girls)

I promise you should go watch this video. And all the other ones they have. Remember to keep breathing while listening. I sometimes forget. I have spent many hours listening to all their videos. They are amazing.

Just imagine...sitting down in the cultural hall where everywhere you look you are surrounded by brown people. Children, women, men, boys and girls, not to mention the young single adult males that were in quite an abundance.

Just imagine.... a musical fireside where the entire choir that is singing, including any soloists or duets, are people from the pacific islands. Completely brown. and produce a more beautiful sound than any I have ever heard be produced in my entire life. (Kind of like this picture...but only young single adults and all dressed in Church clothes and white.

Just imagine...being ridiculously excited to be in this environment and to sing along side of all of these wonderful people, to have the hymn start and have no idea what it is. You look at the words and see a little something like this:
'Oku 'ofa 'a e Tamai 'ia kitautolu
'Oku 'ikai ha me'a 'e ta'e malava kiate ia
Hanga hake 'o puke hono nima
Ko ia oku telinga
Tuku kene fanongo
and have no idea how to pronounce them as it comes straight from the Tongan hymn book! LOVE.

Just imagine...every speaker, every testimony shared, not to mention the bishop who conducted the meeting starting out with "Talofa, Aloha, Malo e lelei, and Hello" and you being expected to say it back.

Just imagine...as soon as the meeting ends everyone begins greeting each other with hugs and kisses on the cheeks and you suddenly feel like you are at a family reunion, with family that has not seen each other for years.

Well folks, don't be jealous. But this is what my last Sunday evening consisted of. My dear friend Mike Bunn, who is always looking out for my life goals and always willing to help me accomplish them, had a friend who was singing in the choir and invited me to come along to the Wasatch Provo stake Fireside (which happens to include many, if not all, the polynesian wards in Provo). It was beautiful. There were three Latter day Saint singer song writers from New Zealand who put together the entire fireside. It was one of the most spiritual firesides I have ever been to in my entire life. And made my decision even more firm about where my future needs to be... ;) But seriously. It was amazing and there are no words to describe how I felt while there! It really was heavenly. I loved EVERYTHING about it.

Please don't make me...

Just looked at my classes I have to register for next semester...Looks like another 18 credit semester for Kendra. Yay.

Here's to no social life and no time for work..resulting in me living on the streets..and not finding a husband... ;)

I just can't wait!

On a happier note, for those of you who have not heard, I was asked to be the
Cougar United President
for the 2010-2011 school year...and I accepted. Call me crazy, I do pretty much every day.

But I am REALLY excited. I love athletics and I love what Cougar United is about. The presidential people before me did a REALLY good job and everyone is really fond of them and their work, I hope I can maybe fill their shoes...at least half way! I am already learning SO many incredible things about athletics and I love having the "in" with Tom and Bill and all of those big names that people hear and never actually know...we are friends.

I have three really great VP's, one being my dearest and most supportive fan, Star Kempton! She is amazing and I love her for everything she does, not to mention the fact that she is my roommate and cousin for forever! She is an amazing support and is why I am going to succeed as CU President! Then we also have a lot of other positions under each of the VP Positions! We are looking for any and ALL volunteers who want to be on the Executive Committee! We would love to have you.

GOOOOOOOOOO COUGARS!!!!!

For more information, visit cougarunited.com. It is free for all students to join and such an incredible organization. For those of you who are not students and are my dear family members who worry about my sanity, any ideas you have for anything to better CU would be greatly apprecited! A lot of you are BYU Alumni and I would love your help! :D

Laurel Peterson Ellsworth

Exactly 7 months ago on Monday, March 22nd (I had really good intentions of actually writing that day, I promise) my Grandma Ellsworth passed away.

The story of her passing is one I would rather not relive...except the last part, when she actually died. It is one of the moments in my life I will never ever forget. It definitely was one of those times where I have been quite certain that Christ was standing right next to me, and is so sacred to my family and I.

Anyway, this last week I was reading through my journal and just wanted to share a few notes that I jotted down at her funeral...well at least it is what I think they say. I was pretty much convulsing from my sobbing, so my hand writing is not top notch...but it will do! ;)

Most LDS mothers do a great job in their roles. Few, that I have met, are of the same caliber that my grandma was. Few are serving such callings as achievement day leader at age 90. At one point she thought that with her inability to remember, to hear the children, etc. that it was time to be released. Instead of sharing that thought with the Bishop or Primary President, she shared it with the Father and was led to understand that she should continue. He is a wise Father because she really did a marvelous job and has touch the lives of many girls. Since that time she has not seemed to question but continued to do what she could. She had her "Merry Miss" girls over that Friday before she passed away. That is dedication. She never gave excuses and relied on the Lord for everything.

I want to be exactly like her. All my life she has been the ultimate example of everything. How to be an amazing mom, a faithful Church member, how to rely completely and solely on the Lord, and if you fail at any of these; turn to the Lord because he can and will make you better. She taught me these lessons and so many more, but not by lecture. No, just by the way she lived her life from day to day.

She was constantly sharing her testimony with us, with everyone! The picture above was taken at her 90th birthday celebration, and she is bearing her testimony. Even though she died less than a year later, I heard her bear her testimony at least 10 other times to me and others. I have never ever doubted her testimony of Jesus Christ.

She was always willing to play and constantly wanting to have a good time. When she got a bit older and less mobile, she told me on many occasions how hard it was for her to not always be up and playing with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She wanted it so badly! Isn't she just adorable?!

What a goofball my grandma was. She was constantly full of life (Shaking her fist at the Dr. after her stroke, while he testing to see how much mobility she had) and such a jokester. For those of you who do not know the cotton balls in cupcakes story, or the chunks of soap she decided to dip in chocolate or any of her other practical joke stories. please let me know! I LOVE telling those! A quick story from one of my last visits over to her house, happened just three weeks before I was starting school. I went over and asked her what exciting things she wanted to do over the weekend. She told me she wanted to go skating, dress up 70's (complete with headbands and parachute pants is what she said) and would be by my apt. to pick me at 7 that night... haha My grandma had hip replacements and could barely get from her chair to standing position in under ten seconds. She no longer was driving and I doubt she had any parachute pants or headbands to wear. But I humored her...or she humored me, and I told her I would be ready at 6:50 and she better not be late. Neither of us ever said Just Kidding.

She had ten children, and raised them without a husband. My grandpa Ellsworth died when my mom (who is the ninth child) was just 9 months old in March of 1960. My Grandma was pregnant with my Uncle Reed and did not even know it, when Grandpa died in a plane crash. (If any of you are feeling confused that their are 11 children in this photo, the one on the front left was my mom's Navajo sister that lived with them for a few years.)

She had 55 grandchildren. Talk about posterity!

...and 110 great grandchildren! What an amazing legacy she, and my grandpa, have left!

I miss her, A LOT. Her death was so much different than any other I have ever experienced. I miss her voice, her laugh and smile, her testimony, her smell and the way she always required/wanted a hug from me EVERY TIME I saw her.

I have yet to forgive her for making us sing "God Be With You Til We Meet Again" at her funeral. How rude.

I always wanted her to meet my husband. I wanted her approval and him to be able to see and recognize what/where our incredible family stems from. Maybe she can give my sisters and I a little help from the other side eh?! ;) She truly is my hero!
She has the same casket as my Grandma Haynie. She saw it at my Grandma's funeral and loved it so much! She told me mom she wanted the same one!

I love this lady with all my heart and soul. She is the foundation of something so much greater than what we can comprehend and has made our family something bigger than anyone else could have. She was/is a rock for so many people and for that I am eternally grateful.

I love you Grandma and miss you every day!

31st WEDDING ANNIVERSARY!!!

Can you even believe that?! Man, time flies when you are having fun...

..and ten children..

..and a whole lot of other things!

I just wanted to publicly thank my parents for being the best examples to me of what an eternal marriage should be like. They know they are not perfect (Surprise!) but that never stops them from continuing their progression and constantly trying. I am grateful that they put forth the work that they do, to have the marriage that they have. They are amazing people and I owe 96% of who I am to them! (The other 4% are my imperfections... ;)

I love them immensely and am so grateful for the sacrifices that they are constantly making for their family.

I love you Mom and Dad!

Here's to a few decades more eh?!

(They like to humor me...and my ridiculously good ideas. There really is a noodle between them!)

(Yes, this family photo from last year is already outdated!)

The Letter

The Letter

There's three of Them.
There's one of me.
I need them now,
on bended knee.

What could I feel?
What need I hear?
Can one come now,
and dry this tear?

'Twas drop by drop-
now word by word-
Each line I write.
May it be heard.

This written prayer,
I send away.
My Advocate,
these words relay.

He reads in Love
and adds some more.
How does He know?
Why me adore?

The Father listens.
He looks at me.
Then looks to Him
and hears His plea.

Then pen to pap'r,
He writes and signs.
He understands
these needs of mine.

Now to the Spirit,
this letter goes.
To be deliver'd-
To comfort woes.

I see Their love,
it's come to me.
Somehow They know,
so person'ly.

One heart and mind,
comes prayers answer.
These Three I love,
read my letter.
